Visiting Nurse

By Jeanne Judson

“You’re not old enough to be a public health nurse, and you’re much too pretty. You can’t expect sensible people to take you seriously.”

In her work among the poor and downtrodden of a rough, rural community, Nurse Elizabeth Downer daily fought against poverty, ignorance, and hopelessness. But when a most unusual character—an eccentric old woman with too many cats, a dirty kitchen and a talent for the stock market—is at risk of losing her independence and her hard-won fortune, Elizabeth is forced to choose sides between the two doctors she works for. One is a darkly handsome newcomer who keeps her at arm’s length, while the other is an intense, driven visionary who is quickly working his way to the top of the small town’s medical establishment and plans to take her with him as his top assistant. But one of them guards a secret—and Elizabeth’s heart harbors its own trouble, too, one she can reveal only to the right man.
